Last night we had a talk given by Dr. Kevin Elsby FRPS and for anyone who missed it, you missed the chance to travel with him from the North Pole to the South Pole, East and West all in one evening. I don’t think there were many parts of the globe not covered! Birds, animals, insects and landscapes, the photographs were amazing and the evening full of anecdotes. who would have know that a Polar bears skin is actually black? But as Kevin said it’s not actually something he would recommend trying to find out yourself. What about the symbiotic relationship between the Slough and the Moth, where did that come from? Hopefully everyone who attended found it as entertaining and informative as me.
On Sunday 17th September there will be an open day for another of my hobbies, Vintage Tractors. The Norfolk Classic & Vintage Tractor Club has an open day on the North Walsham Road, just outside Bacton. There is a large signpost at the field entrance. Starting Open 10:00 – 15:00. There will be a range of vintage farm machinery. Some active ploughing will be taking place. There will be a vintage corn mill which will be belt driven by a 1947 Fordson E27N and providing the day is dry you will get the opportunity to see and photograph them in action grinding wheat recently harvested from the field, to make flour. The flour will be bagged and offered for sale. This is something you don’t see very often. Both offering the chance to take some nostalgic photographs and witness something quite unique. If you feel up to it the opportunity is also there for you to try your hand on a tractor ploughing. Its not as easy as it often looks! Entry is Free and there will be off road car parking available. There will be Food and drinks available on the site. Why not make a trip to the coast on Sunday.
Our next meeting the 21st September will be the first of this seasons competition. The Judge for the evening is Steve Milner. The competition is Open , so the choice of image is entirely down to you. You can enter 2 digital and 2 printed images for the competition. Digital images are to be sent tome at firstname.lastname@example.org by 19th September so that I can load them into the club software. If you have any difficulties with image preparation please contact either Gordon , Stevi or myself for help, I am certain one of us will be able to help.
Just in case you didn’t know we have recently started a new Facebook Group . This will be open at anyone who has any interest in photography. The idea is that through the group we can achieve a two way communication instead of the current one way on the Facebook Page we have. You will be able to upload images make and receive constructive comments in a safe environment. I would encourage you to join the group and lets start growing our community. Please feel free to add any of your friends who you feel may contribute or get enjoyment from this group. Regards, Nick
