I took the opportunity to climb the lighthouse on a recent open day. This is the 500watt light in the lantern house. It is the only independently operated lighthouse in the UK and, as such, part of the operating conditions stipulated by Trinity House was that it remained in continuous operation. Taken on Canon EOS M at f11 at 1/125sec.

Happisburgh lighthouse is the oldest operating lighthouse in East Anglia. It operates with the traditional 3 white flashes every 30 seconds, visible for 18 miles out to sea. The iconic red and white paintwork of the lighthouse helps sailors to navigate our coast during daylight hours. The lighthouse has recently undergone a complete repaint with the majority of paint donated by Sandtex.
